Food Stamp Nutrition Education
The goal of the Food Stamp Nutrition Education is to provide educational programs that help low income households, in particularly food stamp recipients, make healthy food choices and active life styles consistent with the message reflected in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the MyPyramid.
In Oregon, OSU Extension Service is contracted with the Food Stamp Program in the Department of Human Services (DHS) to provide activities that help bring awareness of the importance of good nutrition to the targeted audience and improve their health by promoting good eating habits. Besides OSU Extension Service, the Child Nutrition Program (CNP) in Oregon Department of Education (ODE), the WIC Program in DHS and the Nutrition Council of Oregon are also actively involved in delivering nutrition education to Oregonians.
