Technical Guidelines for Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response in the African Region
A guide developed by WHO AFRO, WHO headquarters, CDC and other IDSR partners that describes the IDSR strategy and the surveillance activities for detecting and responding to priority infectious diseases. District Analysis Book: A Module of the Technical Guidelines for IDSR in the African region

Compilation of Job Aids for Laboratory Confirmation PDF 2195 KB
A compilation of job aids developed by the Tanzania Ministry of Health and its partners to promote standard performance of health workers at health facilities, districts, and referral laboratories in tasks that support laboratory confirmation of eight priority diseases.
External Quality Assessment (EQA) in the Africa region ( PDF version 567 KB)
A program for national laboratories organized by the National Health Laboratory Service of Johannesburg, South Africa to help participating laboratories assess their capabilities and to guide WHO AFRO in developing activities targeted to the laboratories' needs.

Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response Training Modules
A set of training modules developed by WHO AFRO and IDSR partners for health workers involved in disease surveillance at the different levels of a health system. Guide for the Use of Core Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response Indicators in the African Region, July 2005 ( PDF version 856 KB)
A guide developed by WHO AFRO, CDC, and other IDSR partners for the different levels of a health system to use for monitoring and evaluating IDSR implementation. This guide describes the IDSR indicators that should be used at each level, and provides sample tools to implement these indicators.

A global consultation for IDSR bringing together over 80 participants from selected member states representing all WHO regions, WHO regional offices and headquarters, technical and donor partners, training institutions and surveillance networks. The consultation was held in Geneva, on October 22-24, 2003.
