Dexter Lake Shoreline Management Plan

The Revised Dexter Shoreline Management Plan (DLSMP) has been approved by the Corps of Engineers Portland District and Northwest Division Commanders. The moratorium on new shoreline permits has been lifted. The Corps appreciated your patience during the revision process.

Why did the Corps revise the Plan?

The DLSMP was last revised in October 1995. Engineering Regulation 1130-2-406 requires periodic review and revision of Shoreline Management Plans to make sure they are still meeting the current needs of the public and the environment. In 2005, requests for new dock permits, dock permit renewals, vegetation modification permits, and other permits resulted in various issues and public concerns regarding the management of the Dexter Lake shoreline. The Corps’ goal with the revision process was to ensure that the revised DLSMP:

1. Reflects current public use and resource protection issues, and

2. Provides clear, specific and consistent guidelines for future shoreline management.

Public Involvement

In March 2006, the Corps hosted an open house to discuss revision of the Dexter Lake Shoreline Management Plan (DLSMP). A rough draft of the plan was completed by February 2007. From February 12 to March 16, 2007, the public was given an opportunity to submit comments and questions about the draft plan.

On June 7, 2007, the Corps held a public meeting to present the final draft of the revised plan. Members of the public were given an opportunity to ask questions and express concerns about the plan. Based on this public feedback, some revisions were made to the final draft before it was submitted for District and Division approval.
