Information You Need to Know
If you fail to follow the required application procedures, the entire process will be delayed.
If you have an incorrect Social Security number listed in any UNT office or on your Student Aid Report (SAR), a copy of your Social Security card will be required by the financial aid office. Name changes may require a copy of your new Social Security card.
If the Social Security Administration records do not confirm your claim of U.S. citizenship with the INS office, a copy of your social security card and birth certificate, naturalization certificate or passport will be requested by our office.
If you apply for and are accepted to graduate school, you forfeit eligibility for undergraduate programs and your satisfactory academic progress will be measured according to graduate student classification (see Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements for more info). Financial aid eligibility is based on classification as determined by the admissions or registrar's offices.
If you are classified as a non-degree seeking student, you are not eligible for financial aid.
If you are classified as a transient student, you will not be eligible for financial aid.
If you request a change of your original award, you may experience some delay in processing.
If you have outstanding prior term charges, you must pay your balance before any current term funds will be posted to your UNT student account.
If you have not registered for classes, your financial aid funds will not be posted to your UNT student account.
If you fail to maintain satisfactory academic progress (see Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements for more info), your subsequent award or disbursement is subject to cancellation.
If you do not plan to attend a semester for which aid is awarded, you must notify us in writing before the semester begins. Your awards will be canceled.
If you are enrolled at two institutions concurrently, you may be eligible for aid at only one institution.
If you receive additional scholarships, waivers or other types of resources, the financial aid office must consider this as a resource available and use it in calculating a student's eligibility. In some cases, financial aid awards will need to be adjusted or canceled even if the award has previously been accepted by the student. Please see Student Accounting and University Cashiering Services for information on Third Party/Sponsored Agreements.
If you would like to appeal a decision made by the financial aid office, you should start by speaking with a financial aid counselor. If you would like to appeal further, the counselor will then refer you to the appropriate administrator.
If you fail to complete all application requirements prior to the last official class day, and/or do not re-enroll for the following enrollment period, federal regulations prohibit payment of funds after the last official class day of any enrollment period.
If you receive financial aid based on incorrect information, you will be required to repay it; you may also have to pay fines and fees. Falsification of information or signature forgery can lead to disciplinary action by the university. If you purposely report false or misleading information, you may be subject to a fine of $10,000 and/or a prison sentence.
If you need to request copies of documents from your financial aid file, you must complete a Release-Of-Information form. Allow at least four to seven days to receive the requested copies.
