Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Renewal Application to apply for all federal, state and institutional aid available through UNT. List the UNT Title IV school code in Section H. The number is 003594 . Apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Within approximately four weeks, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) and the financial aid office will receive your application information data. At that time, you will be notified by mail and through the my UNT portal of any additional information or documentation required to complete your file. Once your file is complete, you will be notified by mail and through the my UNT portal of your financial aid award status through a Financial Aid Notification letter.
New or transfer students who have applied for financial aid at another institution are responsible for requesting their financial aid information be sent by the federal processor to UNT. Financial aid awards do not transfer from one institution to another.
If applying for summer financial aid, a UNT Financial Aid Summer Application must be completed in addition to the previous academic year FAFSA or Renewal Application. The Summer Application must be completed on myUNT. The following documents are necessary when applying for financial aid. Not every document will be required of everyone. We will notify you by mail which documents are required.
- Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Renewal Application for everyone applying for financial aid. This is the application that begins the process. Complete via the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
- Verification Statement and U.S. income tax returns for individuals selected for verification. You will be notified by mail if you must submit your tax documents or other information. Do not submit your tax documents to our office unless requested.
- Copies of your Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) document (I-151, I-551, etc.) for eligible noncitizens if requested by the federal processing agency. You will be notified by mail and through the my UNT portal if such information is needed. This information must be approved by INS after your card is received by our office before processing can continue.
- Verification of acceptance to the university supplied by the admissions office via computer. New and transfer students must be accepted to the university before eligibility will be assessed.
- Additional documents or information. You will be notified by mail and through the my UNT portal if such information is needed. Make sure UNT has your most current local and permanent mailing addresses, and email address.
