Applications Overview
What is integration?
Integration is defined as links between major elements of the
ITS Taxonomy and can take several forms. The most common form of
integration link is the sharing of information between agencies, for
example when arterial traffic data are shared with transit agencies
so they can improve service. Another form of integration is equipment
interoperability, such as when emergency vehicles communicate with
traffic signals to preempt signal timing to improve incident response.
A third form of integration is when two agencies coordinate control
actions, such as when arterial management agencies coordinate signal
timing on a corridor.
