Foresters at Oregon Parks and Recreation strive to maintain healthy forests, promote biodiversity, lead by example in stewardship, encourage sustainability, and facilitate safe recreational experiences.
Healthy Forests:Healthy forests provide the habitats, values, and recreational opportunities park visitors expect from their state parks, historic sites, recreational trails and scenic waterways.
Biodiversity: Forest stands of mixed species and age classes provide opportunities to increase native plant and animal biodiversity, and are typically more resilient to insects and disease and remain in a healthy state for longer periods of time.
Stewardship: Stewardship plays an important role and considers all aspects of the forest: Soils, water, vegetation, wildlife, and fisheries. Good stewardship emphasizes best management practices that protect each of these resources equally, as they all contribute to the balance of the forest system.
Sustainability: Sustainable forests provide a diverse range of environmental, economic, and social needs not only today, but also in the future.
Safe Recreational Experiences: Removing danger trees in developed areas and along trails reduces the risk of injuries or property damage.
