Overview |

Traffic Engineering is one of five units under the Traffic-Roadway Secion, Technical Services Branch. This unit is currently under the leadership of Douglas Bish, the Traffic Engineering Unit Manager.
Traffic Engineering provides a broad range of traffic services to Oregon residents. These services include support for the State Traffic Engineer's delegated authorities, standards for application of traffic control devices, technical analysis of traffic signal operations, highway safety programs and the speed zoning program.

The Investigations Group is responsible for maintaining the ODOT Traffic Manual. This group provides technical support for the State Traffic Engineer's delegated authorities and standards for application of traffic control devices.

Signal Operations |
The purpose of the Traffic Signal Operations Program is to provide traffic engineering expertise for the identification, selection, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of traffic signal and traffic signal system operational improvements.

Highway Safety Program |
Oregon’s Safety Management System reflects a long history of effective transportation safety programs and interagency cooperation. The System responds to a federal requirement for a formalized systematic decision-making process and policy direction provided by the Oregon Transportation Commission’s approval of the Transportation Safety Action Plan.

Speed Zoning Program |
The Oregon Department of Transportation is responsible for establishing speed zones on all highways in Oregon. The Traffic Engineering Unit is responsible for the overall administration of the program.
