The purpose of this program is to identify effective strategies for improving
the performance of teachers in ways that lead to increases in students' mathematics
and science learning, and to develop practical assessments of teacher knowledge
and validate these assessments against measures of student performance. Through
this program, the Institute will support research on the development and evaluation
of teacher preparation programs, teacher professional development programs, and
assessments of teacher knowledge.
