Conduct the Peer Review
Conducting a successful peer review requires using the right tools to ensure that sponsors are provided the best recommendations during the review process. Our extensive track record of managing and conducting peer reviews provides the experience and tools necessary to meet sponsor needs. Our products and services have been refined through application with a wide range of customers.
The peer review process is designed for qualified experts to provide objective recommendations to decision-makers using defined criteria. ORISE has experience with a variety of methods for conducting the peer reviews:
- Postal review in which the reviewers submit their individual evaluations without contacting each other
- Postal review in which reviewers participate in a conference call to discuss their evaluations
- Panel review in which the reviewers meet to discuss their evaluations
These methods can be used to evaluate a variety of documents, including research proposals and technical reports.
ORISE ensures:
- The review is conducted in a professional manner with a high degree of process integrity.
- The research sponsor receives the agreed-upon results in a timely manner.
- Customer service adds value to the reviewers and sponsors by:
- Minimizing administrative burden on reviewers.
- Coordinating reviewer travel and process travel reimbursements.
- Providing honoraria payments to eligible reviewers.
- Responding to unanticipated situations.
- Focusing on maintaining integrity throughout the process.
Examples of ORISE experience with conducting peer reviews:

- Varied complexity of reviews. ORISE has experience in conducting reviews based on a single panel, several concurrent panels, as well as a series of multiple panels. Reviews have been coordinated with single sponsors and also with multiple sponsors who are responsible for individual panels within a large review.
- Varied purposes. We conduct reviews that evaluate a variety of documents, including research proposals, reports of in-process and completed research, as well as scientific assessments.
- Varied locations. Our staff has experience conducting reviews in contracted meeting facilities, public facilities, and at research sites. While many of the reviews are conducted in Oak Ridge, Tenn., or in Washington, D.C., we are flexible and can conduct reviews at almost any location.
