Technical Assessments Group
Scientific and Engineering Reviews Whom to Contact with Questions The Technical Assessments Group (TAG) is responsible for licensing and technical reviews in the areas of uranium recovery, byproduct waste disposal, low-level radioactive waste processing and storage, natural occurring radioactive material (NORM), and waste processing and storage.
TAG staff are assigned to evaluate scientific and engineering topics as required by the radiation control regulations and health physics topics related to operational health and safety. This is accomplished through staff expertise in environmental and operational health physics, process and civil engineering, and geology TAG staff also provide expertise in the evaluation of the decommissioning and reclamation of tailings impoundments at former commercial uranium mill sites (UMTRCA Title II sites) and in situ uranium recovery sites. For more information see the UMTRA project page. In addition, TAG staff also review financial security issues for conventional and in-situ uranium facilities and waste processors. Staff also provide support and expertise for emergency response, radiological assessment for sites contaminated with residual radioactivity, and indoor radon information to the public.
