Office of Special Investigations

The Criminal Investigations Division investigates criminal activity in a number of areas including cyber crimes such as solicitation of children and child pornography. The division works in cooperation with other state, federal and local law enforcement agencies to locate and arrest child sex offenders who are in violation of parole, and sex offenders who fail to register as required by law. The division may also investigate white collar crimes, criminal consumer fraud, identity theft, election code violations, voter fraud, money laundering and public corruption.

The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit conducts criminal investigations into (and refers for prosecution) violations of state and federal laws pertaining to fraud in the administration of the Medicaid program, in the provision of medical assistance, or in the activities of providers under the state Medicaid plan. The unit also investigates, or refers to an appropriate authority, complaints alleging physical abuse or criminal neglect of patients in health care facilities receiving payments under Medicaid.
