January 3, 2007 — World Birding Center - Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley SP — Christmas Bird Count — Join staff and volunteers as they participate in the 107th year of this nationwide tradition, tallying as many birds as possible within a 15-mile-diameter circle that includes the park. Participants, working in teams, may opt for a few hours' counting, an all-day marathon or anything in between. February 8–10, 2007 — Canceled — Big Bend Ranch SP — Lower Shutup Hike — Ride in a four-wheel-drive vehicle on a bumpy road to the inside of the Solitario, a collapsed volcano. Camp overnight and depart the following morning on a strenuous eight-mile hike through the Lower Shutup where you will see the oldest down to the youngest rock formations of the Solitario - a very scenic hike. The second night's campsite is at the southern base of the Solitario. Return via four-wheel-drive vehicle after breakfast the following morning. February 27–March 1, 2007 — Houston, Texas — Ranching and Wildlife Expo — As a compliment to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and Texas Southwestern Cattle Raiser's Association commercial bull and heifer events and sales, this Expo features wildlife-related exhibits from Texas Parks and Wildlife. White-tailed deer research from Kerr WMA; alligator information and live alligators from J. D. Murphree WMA; Laser Shot interactive systems from Hunter Education; Operation Game Thief trailer; Texas Big Game Awards and Becoming an Outdoors Family, as well as a variety of other groups presented. The event also showcases presentations from experts in the field with a wide range of topics of interest to landowners, land managers and anyone interested in wildlife management. March 2, 2007 — Sebastopol House SHS — Toast To Texas — The celebration is to commemorate the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Everyone is given a bottle of Texas spring water for the toast and is invited to stay for refreshments after the event, which includes patriotic music, delivery of the mayor's proclamation by the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Mounted Posse and other festivities. March 3, 2007 — Sea Center Texas — Nature Day — Fishing, birding and habitat gardening are just a few the activities that will be highlighted at this event. See live animals exhibits, hear many tips on how to enjoy nature in your backyard or at your favorite outdoor getaways. Catch and release youth fishing available, but bring your own rod, reel, tackle and bait. Cut squid or fresh dead shrimp work well fished on the bottom; no artificial lures and barbless hooks only. March 3–4, 2007 — Washington-on-the-Brazos SHS — Texas Independence Day Celebration — Celebrate Texas' 171st birthday at the "Birthplace of Texas," Washington-on-the-Brazos. Demonstrators, re-enactors and period music come together to make history come alive. Visit Independence Hall where the Texas Declaration was adopted March 2, 1836 and learn about Texas' ten years as a sovereign nation at the Star of the Republic Museum. April 13–15, 2007 — Fort Richardson SP&HS & Lost Creek Reservoir State Trailway — Fort Richardson Days — We will celebrate our 140th anniversary by turning back time, inviting all manner of living historians and historical re-enactors to take us back to the 1860s and 70s. Friday will be dedicated to all school groups to participate and meet the presenters. Saturday will be open to all visitors to meet and interact with the live-action, historical displays and their characters. See an 1860s baseball game; laundresses take in troopers' wash; soap-making, bread baking and afternoon tea with the ladies' contingent while the cavalry, infantry and artillery show off their skills throughout the day. April 21, 2007 — Colorado Bend SP — Earth Day Celebration — Bring a friend and a picnic lunch and enjoy the beauty of this unique area of the Texas Hill Country. Take a self-guided 1-1/2-mile scenic, round trip tour to spectacular Gorman Falls, a 65-foot waterfall in a beautiful Hill Country setting. See Gorman Cave in a walking wild cave tour. Hike along the Pat Copeland Trail to Gorman Springs, a beautiful area of the park open to the public only twice a year, on this self-guided tour. April 21, 2007 — San Jacinto Battleground SHS — San Jacinto Day Festival and Battle Re-enactment — Enjoy living history encampments and re-enactors in period costume, demonstrations of weapons, activities for children and more. Exhibits include Texas Buffalo Soldiers and frontier life, TPWD Wildlife and Inland Fisheries and others. May 25–27, 2007 — Big Bend Ranch SP — 4X4 Tour — Bring your four-wheel drive vehicle and visit scenic and remote parts of the park that are otherwise inaccessible. We will go to Las Burras, Madrid Falls and Fresno Canyon. The tour will be limited to 10 vehicles, so please sign up early. The trails are brushy, so scratches may occur on your vehicle. June 23, 2007 — Eisenhower SP — Texoma on the Fly — This event will showcase fly fishing opportunities at Lake Texoma and the park with an emphasis on striper and warm water fishing in Texas. It is a rare opportunity to learn from certified casting instructors and friendly fly fishers who love to share their sport.
