Competitions
February 3–4, 2007 — Huntsville SP — Rocky Raccoon 100/50 Mile Trail Run — This ever-popular annual event is a gathering of endurance runners/walkers who will hit the trails of the park for two days. Participants in the 100-mile race will tackle five loops of 20 miles each. April 14, 2007 — Big Spring SP — 10th Annual Master the Mountain Fun Walk/Run — This is a challenging course, due to steep terrain at the park, and participants enjoy the course that follows the edge of a 200-foot bluff (at the northern limit of the Edwards Plateau). April 22, 2007 — San Jacinto Battleground SHS — 2007 Battle of San Jacinto Triathlon — The City of La Porte and San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site team up for this 2nd annual event, which combines swimming, running and bicycling all in one race. The event will begin at Sylvan Beach with a stream of participants swimming 1.5 km in Galveston Bay, followed by a 40 km bike race that includes an out and back ride over the Fred Hartman Bridge and finishing at the base of the San Jacinto Monument with a two loop 10 km run. The duathlon will consist of a two-mile run, followed by a 40 km bike race that includes an out and back over the Fred Hartman Bridge and finishing at the base of the San Jacinto Monument. The aquabike will consist of a 1.5 km swim in Galveston Bay, followed by a 40 km bike race that includes an out and back over the Fred Hartman Bridge and finishing at the base of the San Jacinto Monument. 7 a.m.; fee $1 park admission for spectators 13 and up; registration required for triathlon.
