Mean Green Set Several Personal Records

LONG BEACH, Calif. – North Texas track and field wrapped up its California tour with a full schedule at the Long Beach Invitational Saturday as several Mean Green set personal records.
 
"Great weekend for our team," director of track and field Carl Sheffield said. "The meets we competed in provided outstanding competition for our group. Our confidence is improving in preparation for the conference meet."
 
Antonio Delacruz and Davonye Jones each posted career-bests in the 100-meter dash with times of 10.47 and 10.53 seconds, respectively. Darien Porter also competed and finished in 10.56. Aneesa Scott sprinted the 200-meter dash in 23.43 seconds for a personal record, while Taylor Blackshire also recorded her fastest performance in 24.33.
 
Lyric Choice ran the 100-meter hurdles in 14.17 seconds, and Joseph Squire completed the 110-meter hurdles in 14.76. Blackshire finished the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.19. Five Mean Green ran the 200: Porter (21.22), Delacruz (21.31), James Cole (21.39), Jones (21.56) and Abdon Campbell (22.04). The 4x400-meter relay team of Lauryn McCollum, Choice, Richardson and Scott crossed the finish line in 3:45.40.
 
In field events, Valencia Bullock recorded a personal record in triple jump with a leap of 12.23 meters and also notched 5.04 meters in long jump. Sydney Salinas pole vaulted 3.76 meters for her best collegiate performance, Mary Piercy recorded a mark of 3.46, and Cody Bullard attained 4.72. Haley Walker threw the discus 45.86 meters, Jaleisa Shaffer registered 42.86, Karl Sralla threw 52.86, and Kendal Maples 40.46. Shaffer logged a toss of 14.63 meters in shot put, while Chris Samaniego tallied 14.69, and Maples 13.34. 
 
Walker also threw the discus 49.67 meters at the Mt. SAC Relays Saturday evening.
 
The Mean Green travel to Texas A&M for competition April 27.
