Shaffer Wins Shot Put Title At Mt. SAC Relays

LONG BEACH, Calif., AZUSA, Calif., and TORRANCE, Calif. – Jaleisa Shaffer of North Texas track and field captured first place in shot put at the Mt. SAC Relays while the Mean Green also competed at the Bryan Clay Invitational and Long Beach Invitational Friday.
 
Shaffer's mark of 14.75 meters was a personal record, and the men's 4x100 relay team consisting of Darien Porter, Davonye Jones, Antonio Delacruz and James Cole provided a strong showing with a second-place finish in a time of 40.07 seconds at the relays.
 
Haley Walker attained a mark of 12.96 meters in shot put, while Chris Samaniego threw a distance of 14.42 in the event. In discus, Karl Sralla recorded a mark of 50.36, Kendal Maples threw 43.16, and Shaffer registered 45.61.
 
At the Bryan Clay Invite, Lauryn McCollum and Artesha Richardson each ran the 400-meter dash with McCollum clocking a 56.13 and Richardson performing a personal best 56.40. Joseph Squire recorded a 55.39 in the 400-meter hurdles, and Lyric Choice logged a 1:03.04 in the race. In the 1500-meter run, Rea Iseli posted a personal record time of 4:28.43 to solidify third place in the UNT record books, and Andrew Cobos ran a 3:54.39.
 
Three Mean Green throwers participated at the Long Beach Invite. Zion Hill recorded a mark of 67.99 meters in javelin, and Kristyn Archuleta tallied 45.55. Ashlynn Smart threw the hammer 44.90 meters.
 
The Mean Green wrap up their competition in California Saturday at the Mt. SAC Relays and Long Beach Invitational.
