UNT Captures Nine Titles At Baylor

WACO – Cassidy Adams set a stadium record in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, and Karl Sralla earned a pair of first place finishes for North Texas track and field at the Baylor Invitational as the Mean Green totaled nine titles Saturday at the Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium. 
 
"It was a very good meet for us. It was exactly what we needed for a big confidence boost," director of track and field Carl Sheffield said. "It's was a great way to finish the month of training."
 
Adams ran a 7:07.49 for first place honors, while Sralla tallied marks of 57.60 meters in the javelin and 48.18 in discus. UNT took third, fourth and fifth in discus, hammer and shot put in the order Chris Samiengo, Isaac Huseman and Kendall Maples in each event.
 
Haley Walker also won the discus title with a throw of 47.97, teammate Jaleisa Shaffer was second at 44.11, and Ashlynn Smart was fifth at 32.88. Smart was first in hammer with a mark of 46.94, and Haley Walker finished behind her at 45.24. Shaffer took the shot put title with a toss of 14.06 meters, while Walker was next at 13.52. 
 
On the track, Andrew Cobos was the first to cross the finish line in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:59.83. Aneesa Scott earned first in the 200-meter dash at 24.13, Alex Cleveland ran the 3,000 for first in 8:57.60.
 
"We are really excited for the big season opener at our new home track (April 6). I'm excited about where our team is right now. There are still some areas to improve. It's a long season," Sheffield said.
 
The Mean Green travel to compete in the Texas Relays March 29-30.
