AERA Annual Meeting

At the American Educational Research Association Annual Meeting, student and faculty research from the Department of Learning Technologies were well represented. They presented alone and with faculty on topics ranging from the use of the Nintendo Wii for classroom learning (Dr. Lin) to the use of digital technologies to support educational inquiry (Dr. Warren, Dr. Jones, and doctoral students) to the use of computer simulations to prepare teacher educators (Dr. Tyler-Wood ) and in the area of the effectiveness of grant writing courses (Dr. Nimon.)

M. Nichols-Outstanding Alumna

Margaret Irby Nichols was recognized for Outstanding Alumna Service at the UNT Awards Dinner, April 15, 2011. This prestigious award recognizes individuals who contribute exceptional volunteer service to our University. Nichols received her Bachelor’s from UNT in 1945, which at that time was known as the North Texas State Teachers College. She then returned to teach at the College of Information, previously known as School of Library and Information Sciences, for 40 years.

Dr. Schamber Named Acting Dean

dr. schamber Dr. Linda Schamber has been appointed acting dean of the University of North Texas College of Information. Schamber has served as associate dean since 2005. Acting associate dean is now Dr. Mickey Wircenski.

simSchool Modules Project

students learning virtually Next Generation Learning Challenges (NGLC) has awarded a grant to the simSchool Modules Project sponsored by the Association for the Advancement of Computing Education (AACE) in collaboration with CurveShift (simSchool) and Pragmatic Solutions, Inc. Key partners also include the University of North Texas. During the simSchool Modules project, UNT will serve as the Research Center on Teaching and Learning with simSchool.
