Alum Breaks Ground in Utah

Sam Passey, UNT Library and Information Sciences Alumni, Library Director, and 2011 Utah Librarian of the Year, was able to receive a $5 millon grant to build the Vernal Library and Community Resources Center. Sam Passey and Sixty young adults and community leaders celebrated the ground breaking of their new 33,000 sq. foot building on May 16. Full Story

Margaret Irby Nichols was recognized for Outstanding Alumna Service at the UNT Awards Dinner, April 15, 2011. This prestigious award recognizes individuals who contribute exceptional volunteer service to our University. Nichols received her Bachelor’s from UNT in 1945, which at that time was known as the North Texas State Teachers College. She then taught with Library and Information Sciences for 40 years.

Capstone Donates to Peru

thank you capstone Capstone Publishing has donated 300 books to school library media study abroad program in Peru. The books will benefit the first school library in Urubama, Colegio Sagrado Corazon. LIS students will be in Peru May 18th through June 5th working on a library automation system in the city of Cuzco. The Department of Library and Information Sciences would like to thank Capstone Publishing for their generous donation.

iConference 2012 Toronto
