Elmer Brown set Lone Star Conference records in the 100-, 200- and 440-yard dashes as a senior at North Texas.

He was also a member of the record-setting relay team known as "The Flying Twins," which consisted of Elmer and his twin brother Delmer and twin brothers Wayne and Blaine Rideout, who combined to set a world record in the mile and seven-eighths run at the Melrose Games at Madison Square Garden in 1938.

Elmer later served as trainer at Midwestern State and TCU and was on the training staff at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia. He is an inductee into the National Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame.
