Mean Green Fall to SMU

DALLAS – The North Texas swimming and diving team fell in dual action at SMU on Saturday afternoon, the Mean Green were outscored by the Mustangs 212.50-87.50.

North Texas was also in the pool swimming against LSU but no score was kept between the two schools.

"Overall, despite the final score the team did well today," head coach Brittany Roth said. "On the swimming side we had a lot of great races under our belts, and I'm excited to see what they can do in a few weeks when we back off a bit in training and let them shine."

Out of 46 individual swimming opportunities the Mean Green turned in 33 season bests, highlighted by performances by juniors Leigh Faires McGee, Robyn Lee, sophomore Karigan Stanley and freshmen Kaity Carr and Jenny Holwell.

McGee finished third in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.57, second in the 100 free with a time of 51.72 and fourth in the 500 free with a time of 5:02.45. All of the Jackson, Mississippi native's swims were season-bests.

Lee turned in a 2:05.02 in the 200 back which was good enough for seventh individually, but was the juniors top time this season. Stanley turned in a season-best 4:36.70 in the 400 IM, Carr a 53.83 in the 100 free and 24.21 50 free which were the top times of the freshman's collegiate career, and Holwell turned in a 1:06.84 in the 100 breast, a career best.

North Texas' divers were led by junior Meghan Miller who turned in a score of 210.65 which was good for fourth individually in the one-meter, and sophomore Altaira Wallquist who turned in a score of 228.80 placing her fourth in the three-meter.

"We had a team that stood up to SMU and LSU athletes today and hit such impressive marks," Roth added. "It's exciting to think about what the future holds for this group."

North Texas will be back in action November 22-24 when the swimmers head to the Kansas Classic in Lawrence, Kansas while the divers compete in the Phill Hansel Invitational in Houston.
