The premier ensemble of the University of North Texas choral program, the 52-voice A Cappella Choir, led by Dr. Allen Hightower, director of choral studies, is selected by competitive audition from among the more than 1,500 music majors within the College of Music.
Founded in 1938 by Wilfred Bain, the choir has enjoyed a rich performance history including a three-month tour of Europe under the sponsorship of the US Department of State in 1966. The choir was featured on the closing concert of the 2005 American Choral Directors Association national convention in Los Angeles and on the 1999 national convention in Chicago, and has made numerous appearances at conventions of the Texas Music Educators Association.

About Choral at UNT
The UNT choral singing program is comprised of eight ensemble opportunities. In addition to participation in the university choirs, students regularly perform with the choruses of the Dallas Opera, Fort Worth Opera, the Dallas Symphony Chorus, Denton Bach Society, Schola Cantorum of Texas, and the Turtle Creek Chorale. A significant number of our students hold positions in professional choirs in the metroplex, including the Dallas Bach Society, Helios, Orchestra of New Spain, and Orpheus Chamber Singers.
The expansive Margot and Bill Winspear Performance Hall has been recognized as one of the finest concert halls in the world. Extraordinary in both acoustical quality and aesthetic design, 1,025-seat venue hosts musical events ranging from early music to jazz The hall’s acoustics, designed by the internationally renowned Christopher Jaffe, are varied with ten acoustical curtains and three vertically adjustable clouds.…

The Live Streaming Project
The UNT College of Music began live streaming ensemble performances in 2009 for parents, potential students, and distant colleagues while showing the world-renowned music programs at UNT.
Recordings are available to UNT students and faculty for educational use only. Some concerts are available on youtube.
