Seeing and Believing in the Age of Fake News: Finding Truth in Visual Journalism
Conscientious photojournalists struggle with truth in visual representation. Photography can inform, and it possesses the power to capture our attention, convey emotion, and communicate poetically through metaphor and symbolism.
However, beneath the surface appearance of every photograph there is an original eye, a behavior of light, a mechanical or digital tool, a photographer-subject relationship, an audience, and labyrinthine circumstances that lead all participants to a decisive moment.
Master photojournalists reflected on their craft as they navigated these complex relationships during a panel discussion held at UNT on Thursday, October 4, 2018.
