Funding agencies including the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institute of Health (NIH), and National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) now require grant seekers to include a Data Management Plan (DMP) with their research proposals. A DMP is a supplementary document—usually of no more than two pages—that describes how you will disseminate and share your research results over the course of the proposed project.

Specifications for what to include in a DMP vary depending on the nature of the research and the discipline, as well as on the funding agency requirements.

The DMPTool

Access

To login as a UNT faculty member or student:

1. Click on the “Get Started” button on the DMPTool Home page.
2. Select University of North Texas from the “Option 1” list.
3. Log-in using your EUID and password.
4. Select “Create a New Plan” from the menu at the top of the page.

The tool includes step-by-step guidance on what to include in your data management plan. These guides can be customized to a number of specific funding agency requirements by using the appropriate template for your funding agency. You can find the templates from the “Admin Features” menu a the top of your hompeage–“Templates”–“Customizable Templates”–“View All”. If yours isn’t listed, you can check the agency’s website or grant guidelines before beginning your DMP. You can also create your own template using the “Own Template” tab–“Create a template”.

Repositories

The UNT Libraries offer two digital repositories for preserving and providing access to your research work:

1. The UNT Data Repository is a central archive to provide long-term preservation and access to your research data.
2. UNT Scholarly Works serves as our universities’ institutional repository and houses the publications, reports, and scholarly research output.

We also have boilerplate text that can be included in your DMP that states how our repository services can meet the need of preserving and providing access to your research.
