Mean Green Take Third At Trinity Forest

DALLAS – The UNT women's golf team opened its season at the Trinity Forest Invitational and placed third in a strong field on Tuesday, while placing four golfers in the top 20 on the individual leaderboard at Trinity Forest Golf Club.

The Mean Green were tied for first after Round 1 on Monday before dropping to second after the second round on Monday, and they were passed up by Texas Tech on Tuesday after the Red Raiders were the only team in the field to shoot a score under par on Tuesday.

UNT, which finished at 11-over 875, cleared fourth-place Baylor by three shots and was led by senior Lauren Cox's 2-under-par showing to place her in a tie for fifth place. Sophomore Audrey Tan shot 5-over and tied for 16th place, and sophomores Patricia Sinolungan and Katie Finley tied for 20th at 7-over par. The team's fifth player, Emilie Ricaud, had a respectable showing at 10-over to tie her for 31st place.

"I am happy to start the season off with a top-3 finish against a solid field," UNT coach Michael Akers said. "We play against good teams this entire year, and now we know we can hang with the best. I love the fact we are consistent throughout the lineup."

The Mean Green will return to action Sept. 15-16, at the Marilynn Smith Invitational in Manhattan, Kansas.

"Now, we're setting our sights on going to win the K-State event," Akers said.
