The Graduate Management Admissions Test, or GMAT, is administered by Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) and is accepted by over 6,000 graduate business programs at close to 1,700 universities and organizations around the world. The GMAT is a computer based standardized test designed to measure critical thinking, analytical writing, integrated reasonings (evaluating information presented in multiple formats), verbal reasoning, and quantitative reasoning skills.  The question types are intended to reflect the kind of thinking you’ll do and the skills you need to succeed in business school programs. • GMAT Overview

This FREE online video workshop created by the Learning Center is designed to help you become familiar with the structure of the test, types of questions you will encounter, material tested, useful strategies for studying, and what to expect the day of the test. Please note: Beginning July 11, 2017 the GMAC changed the format of the GMAT to allow you to select the order of your sections of the exam from three options.  This is not discussed in the Overview video.  Click here to learn more about this change and how to select section order.

• Online GMAT Minicourse

Online GMAT Preparation Resources

There are several online resources that provide free preparation resources and tools for the GMAT.  Some of these also have additional resources you can pay for, but this is not always necessary.

• GMAC, the GMAT testmakers, has some helpful free resources which allows students the opportunity to become more familiar with the different components of the test.  There are resources in addition to these that you can pay for.  Click here to learn more about these paid resources.
  • GMAT Handbook provides a comprehensive guide to everything you need to know about registering for and taking the GMAT.  GMAC recommends you read through this thoroughly before test day.
  • GMATPrep Software provides a test preview and two full length practice tests for you to take for free
  • Analysis of an Argument Questions provides a list of real prompts for the Analytical Writing portion of the GMAT.
  • Sample AWA Question provides you the opportunity to try writing your own essay and compare it to one with a high score.
  • Integrated Reasoning (IR) Sample Question Types provides examples of the four types of IR questions.
  • Sample Problem Solving Question provides you the opportunity to try solving an example problem solving question.
  • Sample Data Sufficiency Question provides you the opportunity to try solving an example data sufficiency question.
  • Sample Reading Comprehension Question provides you the opportunity to try solving an example reading comprehension question.
  • Sample Critical Reasoning Question provides you the opportunity to try solving an example critical reasoning question.
  • Sample Sentence Correction Question provides you the opportunity to try solving an example sentence correction question.
• Khan Academy offers GMAT specific videos.  In these videos, the instructor works through the 249 problem solving questions and 155 data sufficiency questions in the 11th edition of the official GMAC GMAT Review.
• Magoosh.com GMAT Blog provides video lessons and blog posts on many different GMAT topics for all three multiple choice sections.  They also have ebooks on different GMAT topics and free flashcards.
• Majortests.com provides tips for answering each of the question types and practice test questions.
• McGraw-Hill Prep Center for the GMAT provides instructional videos on strategies for different question types on the GMAT, along with practice questions.
• Affordable Colleges GMAT Guidebook has an introduction to the test and includes further resources for preparing for the test.
• Quizlet.com is a free online resource that comes with ready-made flashcards and quizzes made by other students. You can search for the term GMAT to find flashcards and quizzes based on GMAT word lists and test concepts.  You can also create your own flashcards.
• Vocabulary.com is a free online resource that provides word lists.  You can search vocabulary lists for the term GMAT to find the different word lists.  You can then review the word lists with either the word and definition or just the word.  You can also practice the lists in a quiz-like format and it will track your progress so you know what to work on.
• Kaplan 30-day Trial provides you with some powerful resources to prepare for the GMAT, but this service is only free for the first 30 days.
• Chegg GRE Test Prep provides some free GMAT prep resources, along with additional paid services if you choose to take that route.  For free you can take a four question quiz to get an idea of your performance, do a 20 minute workout of GMAT questions, and/or sign up for a Question of the Day.
