Emergency Phones

The University of North Texas Police Department currently monitors and maintains emergency phones that have been strategically installed throughout the campus. The emergency phones have a touch button that has direct line access to the UNT Police Department at any time. The green pole, blue strobe light, and the word “EMERGENCY” stenciled on three sides identify the emergency phones. Once the talk button is activated, the caller can speak directly with a police dispatcher. These phones can be used for the following reasons:

  • To report suspicious activity or persons
  • Lost or in need of directions
  • Vehicle Emergencies
  • Report an incident or offense
  • If being followed

The emergency phones serve the same purpose as a courtesy phone, with the added feature of the strobe light that attracts attention in case of a real emergency.

Lighting

The University of North Texas has installed high mast lights throughout the campus. These are the primary light sources of our campus. The UNT Police Department, in conjunction with the Student Government Association, conducts a “Safety Walk” each semester to ensure that the lights located within and around the campus are in proper working order. Listed below are a few more areas covered during the safety walk:

  • Lights
  • Cracks on the sidewalk
  • Bicycle racks
  • Bushes and Trees
  • Handicap access
