New science building
In summer 2010, UNT opened a living lab that features a rooftop greenhouse and adheres to stringent environmental standards. The $33.4 million Life Sciences Complex houses biochemistry, developmental physiology and genetics, molecular biology and plant science.
Under construction
Two other buildings are expected to achieve LEED Gold sustainability certification when they open in summer 2011. The technology-filled, $70 million Business Leadership Building will accommodate 8,000 students and promote interaction among students, faculty and industry leaders. The football stadium and entertainment complex has a capacity of 30,000 and will include giant video screens and tons of space for tailgating.
Research alliance
UNT participates in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Science Education Alliance, which involves college freshmen in complex research to spur their interest in science. We’re the only Texas university in the group. Some of the research is conducted at the 290-acre UNT Discovery Park.
