DISCOVER THE POWER OF IDEAS

Multiple Faculty Positions in Mechanical and Energy Engineering
(Lecturer, Assistant, Associate and Full Professors)

The University of North Texas (UNT) is the fourth largest university and one of the emerging research universities in Texas, strategically located in Denton, within the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area and 35 miles north of both these cities. There are over 36,000 students registered in 97 bachelors, 101 masters, and 48 doctoral degree programs.  This is an area of more than six million people, with significant economic growth, numerous industrial establishments, and excellent school districts.  The UNT’s Mechanical and Energy Engineering (MEE) Department is located in the UNT College of Engineering Research Park building with a total of 550,000 square feet. The Research Park boasts of 290 acres of land available for R&D enterprises.   The College of Engineering was established in 2003 and currently houses five departments. The Mechanical and Energy Engineering (MEE) Department (http://www.mee.unt.edu) was established in 2006 and houses the PACCAR Technology Institute and a zero-energy research house (under construction).  It offers programs at the bachelor's and master's levels, with a plan to offer a doctoral program.  At this time MEE faculty members can advise doctoral students in other Ph.D. granting departments.

If you are looking for a challenging research and teaching opportunity that brings your expertise, innovation and interdisciplinary spirit to shape the department you are the ones we are looking for.  We are especially looking for candidates in the following areas:

  • Assistant/associate /full professors (tenure track): Energy efficiency and renewable energy, mechanics of materials, biomechanics, engineering systems design, control and dynamical systems, environmental systems, sustainability and other emerging areas.
  • Lecturer in mechanical and energy engineering (non-tenure track): Main responsibilities are to teach undergraduate courses, perform undergraduate advising, and assist with the ABET process.

The responsibilities of each faculty member (except for Lecturer) include teaching MEE undergraduate courses and graduate courses in areas of his/her own specialty, developing a nationally/internationally recognized synergetic research program funded by extramural funding sources, and providing services to the University and profession.

The minimum requirement for all the faculty positions is an earned Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.  Candidates for senior positions are expected to bring significant research activities with national and international standings and mentor junior faculty.

For detailed descriptions for each of openings, including additional required qualifications and job function descriptions, please visit https://facultyjobs.unt.edu, where applications from interested candidates must be submitted electronically.  The application materials must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae with contact information, a list of three references with e-mail addresses and telephone numbers, a statement of research interests, a statement of teaching interests, and two recent publications.

Review of applications will begin on Nov. 15, 2010 (October 15, 2010, for the lecturer position) and will continue until the search is closed.  The appointment could begin as early as January 1, 2011.

For further inquiries, please contact Dr. Yong X. Tao, PACCAR Professor of Engineering and Chair, at MEE.faculty.search@unt.edu.

The University of North Texas is an EOE/AA/ADA employer committed to diversity in its educational programs.
