Undergraduate Admission

Prospective freshmen and transfer students should apply for admission through the UNT Undergraduate Admission Office. There is not a seperate admission process for initial entry into the School of Visual Arts; a portfolio is not required. However, after the completion of basic art courses including Art Appreciation. Design I and II, and Drawing I and II, several UNT programs require that students participate in an entry review prior to enrollment in courses in their major:

Orientation and Advising for New Undergraduate Students:

The UNT Admissions web page allows propective students to access information regarding admission standards, application prrocesses and deadlines, tuition and fees, and new students orientations.

All undergraduate students are required to attend new students orientation and participate in academic advisement prior to their first enrollment at UNT. New students in the School of Visual Arts should attend the first orientation that is available to them. Enrollment in the School is growing; students who attend the later orientation sessions often fiind that art classes are closed.

Faculty and/or professional advisors from the School of Visual Arts Student Office are available at orientation to advise students regarding their first enrollment at UNT. Transfer students should be prepared to show transcripts and catalog course descriptions from previous schools. Students who have completed courses beyond the art core courses (Design I and II, Drawing I and II, Art Appreciation and Art History Survey I and II) at other schools may be asked to show a portfolio before enrollment in courses in their major; as stated above, some majors require all students to participate in a formal entry review.

Students who wish to speak with one of the SOVA Professional Advisors prior to orientation should call 940-565-2216 to schedule an appointment; advising is not available by telephone. Students who were previously advised are still required to attend orientation prior to their first registration at UNT.

While the Graduate School does not require post baccalaurate students who are second bachelor's degree candidates to attend orientation, the School of Visual Arts strongly recommends that such students participate in the SOVA orientation, which includes an opportunity to consult faculty about degree programs. Call 940-565-2216 for information.
