Evaluation Activities
The OIG Office of Evaluation and Inspections (OEI) is conducting national program evaluations to provide HHS, Congress, and the public with timely, useful, and reliable information on the effectiveness and impact of programs funded by provisions of the Recovery Act. Specifically, OEI expects its Recovery Act-funded work to focus on Recovery Act goals related to Health Information Technology (HIT). OIG evaluators are:
- Reviewing how CMS is overseeing Recovery Act payment incentives for Medicare and Medicaid providers to adopt certified Electronic Health Record (EHR) technology.
- Examining Medicare and Medicaid payments to providers for adopting EHRs to determine if any payments were made in error.
- Assessing CMS’s compliance with new Recovery Act breach notification requirements related to theft of personally identifiable information and oversight measures to deter medical identity theft within Medicare.
- Reviewing Health Center grantee progress in implementing EHRs and HRSA’s oversight of grantees’ efforts.
