    Results of the Alliance Program include:

    Speaker Notes:

    The Alliance Program continues to produce concrete results in the form of compliance assistance tools, presentations, training resources and outreach to assist employers in the reduction of injuries, illnesses, and fatalities and to promote the national dialogue on workplace Safety and Health.

    Training Recourses: Alliance Program participants are developing best practice seminars which they are presenting to OSHA’s National, Regional, Area Office, State Plan State and On-site Consultation program staff around the country. Examples of this training include:
    • National Association of Home Builders Seminar "How to Build a House”
    • Industrial Truck Associations’ Best Practice Seminar, “Man, Machine and Environment”
    • Altec, Incorporated’s “Mobile Crane” Best Practice Seminar
       
    In the last two fiscal years (FY 2007 and FY 2008) 57 training events have taken place reaching over 5,300 participants.

    Speeches: As of September 30, 2008, this fiscal year: representatives of OSHA’s National Office, Regional, and Area Offices participated in 103 speaking engagements reaching over 16,100 participants. During FY 2007, representatives of OSHA’s National Office, Regional, and Area Offices participated in more than 109 speaking engagements to over 14,500 attendees on or related to the Alliance Program. Alliance Program participants also make presentations or exhibit at safety and health related conferences.

    Exhibits: OSHA conducts outreach for the Alliance Program by exhibiting at conferences. As of September 30, 2008, this fiscal year; OSHA exhibited at 47 events with over 28,300 attendees visiting the exhibition booths and more than 614,000 total event attendees. In addition, OSHA provided publications for distribution at 17 National Alliance Program related events. During FY 2007, OSHA exhibited with National Alliance Program participants at 67 events with almost 15,500 attendees visiting the exhibit booths and more than 374,000 total event attendees.

    Electronic Assistance Tools: Alliance Program participants work with OSHA to develop and implement a variety of projects, including electronic assistance tools to meet the goals of their agreements. These compliance assistance products contribute directly to furthering workplace safety and health. Electronic assistance tools, including Safety and Health Topics pages and eTools, are Web-based training tools. Alliance Program participants are serving on the Editorial Boards of more than 90 eTools and Safety and Health Topics pages.
    • eTools: Through the OSHA and American Association of Occupational Health Nurses, Inc. (AAOHN), Association of Occupational Health Professionals in Healthcare (AOHP), Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Alliances; representatives from OSHA and the organizations provided expertise and input during the update of OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogen Module of the Hospital eTool. This module was posted to the Agency Web site in March 2008. As of March 2008, 13 eTools had been revised or developed collaboratively by Alliance participants and OSHA. Alliance Program participants are on the editorial boards of 9 eTools.
    • Safety and Health Topics Pages: Through OSHA and the ISSA Alliance, representatives from ISSA collaborated and provided expertise and input into the development of a Cleaning Industry Safety and Health Topics. This new Safety and Health Topics page was launched in December 2007. Since the Alliance Program's implementation, more than 85 Safety and Health Topics pages have been updated by Alliance participants and OSHA. 23 Safety and Health Topics pages have been developed as products of the Alliance Program.
       
    Publications, Case Studies and Success Stories: Through the Alliance Program, the American Pipeline Contractors Association (APCA) Alliance worked with OSHA to develop ten best practices fact sheets, including “Excavation and Trenching Best Practices for Operators ” and “Pressure Testing Best Practices for Personnel Conducting the Test .” These fact sheets can be viewed from the OSHA and APCA Alliance and the Alliance Program Participants Developed Products Web pages. Through the Alliance Program, OSHA has developed a number of case studies with Alliance Program participants, including American Foundry Society, Abbott, The Steel Group, The Dow Chemical Company, and Washington Division of URS. These case studies address workplace safety and health topics such as ergonomics, motor vehicle safety and construction and are posted on OSHA’s Web site. Through the Alliance Program, OSHA has developed 61 regional and area office success stories and State Plan State success stories, 14 ergonomics success stories, and seven national success stories since its inception. Examples of these success stories are “Kalmar Works with Texas On-site Consultation Program to Enhance Safety in Industrial Trucks,” (posted July 2008) “Tree Care Industry Association Alliance Member – Kappen Trees Service – Receives Safety Award for 16 Years Without a Lost-Time Accident,” (posted June 2008) “OSHA's Region II Alliance With the Voluntary Protection Programs Participants' Association Trains over 600 Employees at a Family Health and Safety Fair,” “Alliance among OSHA Region V Peoria, Illinois Area Office, Richland Community College and the Illinois On-site Safety and Health Consultation Program Works to Increases Employee Awareness of Hazards in General, Construction and Service Industries,” and "Success with Ergonomics: Transporting Cutting Dies with Hand Truck," and “Small Contractor Develops a Safety and Health Training Manual.

    Media Coverage: OSHA continues to work to inform the media about the Alliance Program. OSHA regularly issues news releases to announce Alliance agreement signings and Alliance Program successes. During FY 2008, as of September 30, 2008, over 300 articles were published on the Alliance Program and 45 OSHA news releases. 362 articles were published on the Alliance Program and 38 OSHA news releases during fiscal year 2007. There are a multitude of articles published by industry groups highlighting Alliance Program products, events, activities and successes. Three examples of the publications which feature articles about the Alliance Program are the Occupational Safety and Health Reporter Magazine (March – September 2008), Metalforming Magazine (April 2008) and Professional Safety: Journal of the American Society of Safety Engineers Magazine (November, December 2007; January, February 2008).

    Awareness Campaigns: Through the Alliance Program, Alliance participants’ host, participate in and attend Awareness Campaigns to include National Work Zone Awareness Week, OSHA’s Teen Summer Job Safety Campaign, North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week and Drug Free Work Week.
