Emergency Management Performance Federal Grant Funds Allocated for Guam Homeland Security

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—November 28, 2006 – Washington, D.C. –

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo announced today that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Grants and Training has allocated $658,720 in federal funds for Guam Homeland Security.  These allocated federal grant funds have been made available to Guam Homeland Security to following the recent passage by Congress of the Homeland Security Appropriations Act for 2007, which was signed into law by President George W. Bush on October 4, 2006.

These grant funds have been made available through the Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) Program in order to support comprehensive emergency management at the state, territorial and local levels, and will be available to Guam Homeland Security for the improvement of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery capabilities for all hazards. 

 “I commend Guam Homeland Security and the Office of Civil Defense for their important roles in maintaining the safety and preparedness on our island for our people,” Congresswoman Bordallo said. “The allocation of these federal grant funds is essential to this mission, and will assist the GovGuam in strengthening our island’s overall security.”
