HOW TO HIRE - 6 STAGES OF RECRUITING & HIRING


OPEN POSITION

  • New Position – Hiring Manager obtains appropriate approvals then provides Position Description to HR Center.
    -OR-
  • Replacement Position – Hiring Manager provides Position Description (with revisions if appropriate) to the HR Center.
  • Recruiter consults with Hiring Manager to develop Recruitment Plan.
    • -Discuss essential criteria, underutilization, schedule of recruitment activity and determine interview process.
    • -Recruiter can provide additional guidelines for reference checking and interviewing within the law.
  • Recruiter can provide additional related materials as requested.

ADVERTISING POSITION
  • HR Center enters requisition in HRIS (data management system) and the job is posted on the Current Job Opportunities LBNL employment website for a minimum of 2 weeks. RPM §2.01 (B)(3)(Publicizing Job Vacancies).
  • Internal Posting status for LBL employees.
  • Recruitment and outreach activity is carried out, determined by Recruitment Plan.

FINDING CANDIDATES
  • Recruiter conducts preliminary résumé search within existing database and reviews with Hiring Manager to determine if a diverse and qualified talent pool exists.
  • Recruiter executes Recruitment Plan. Conducts résumé searches until a sufficient applicant pool is attained. An ongoing, interactive dialogue takes place between Hiring Manager and Recruiter to determine top candidates.

IDENTIFYING TOP CANDIDATES
  • Recruiter, Hiring Manager, or Designee phone screens viable candidates.
  • Hiring Manager or Designee schedules interviews and updates Recruiter on outcomes.
  • Hiring Manager, Selection Committee and Recruiter (if applicable) conduct interviews.

SELECT FINALIST
  • Finalist is selected according to the essential objectives of the position.
  • Hiring Manager, Recruiter or Designee completes reference checks.
  • Hiring Manager provides selection log (list of all candidates considered), résumé and Employment Application for selected finalist to HR Center.
  • HR Center works with Hiring Manager and Recruiter to formulate offer.
  • HR Center extends verbal offer and sends offer letter with employment information to the finalist.
  • HR Center updates the HRIS with acceptance data, once the signed offer letter is received. This completes the Selection Log.
  • HR center facilitates obtaining relevant approvals and completes hire package and creates employee file.

NEW HIRE
  • Hiring Manager registers New Hire for New Employee Orientation, pertinent training, coordinates space, equipment and work station.
