The Jackson Field Office (JFO) manages public lands and resources from the coasts of Florida, to the bayous of Louisiana, to the uplands of Arkansas. The field office manages 23 million acres of Federal mineral resources which include oil and gas, coal, phosphate, limestone, clay, quartz, olivine, wavelite, and gold.   Areas currently showing an increase in energy exploration and development are Barksdale AFB in Louisiana and the Fayetteville Shale play in northwestern Arkansas. Actively managed public lands in the field office include tracts of land in Florida, Alabama and Louisiana.  Several tracts include prime beach front property and/or natural habitat being managed for cultural, historic and natural values.
