| The Livestock (or Brand) Inspection Division is responsible to record and administer livestock brands; inspect livestock and verify ownership before sale, transportation beyond 75 miles, or slaughter; inspect all consignments before sale to verify ownership; license and inspect alternative livestock (elk and fallow deer) facilities; and prevent and return strayed or stolen livestock and investigate reports of lost or stolen livestock. In addition, brand inspectors collect beef and horse promotion and research funds. |

The annual transportation permit fee for show animals is $10.00 per head. The annual fee for rodeo cattle which are permanently branded with owner's Colorado recorded brand is $1.00 per head.

| Packing plants and Public Livestock Markets (livestock sale rings) must be licensed by the division, which also inspects them. The division is the trustee for all surety bonds issued to licensed markets and packinghouses doing business in Colorado. |

| All livestock imports are to meet Colorado and Federal interstate requirements. All livestock entering the State of Colorado upon a public highway shall clear through a port of entry. A certificate of veterinary inspection (health certificate) and/or a permit shall accompany the shipment as stipulated. No animal affected with or recently exposed to any infectious or contagious disease, or which originated from a quarantine herd or area, shall be shipped or in any manner transported into the State of Colorado, except for immediate slaughter at a federally inspected slaughtering establishment or with a permit from the Colorado State Veterinarian's Office. |

Special requirements apply to rodeo livestock. Shows and Fairs can establish their own requirements which must be followed in order to exhibit at them. Special state regulations apply to the National Western Stock Show.
