seattle epidemiologic research and information center
Mission Statement
Welcome
to the Seattle ERIC! Our center's overall
mission is to improve the health and health care of veterans by promoting
the principles and
practice of state-of-the-art epidemiologic
research within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). To this end,
the center conducts research about
the frequency and causes of health conditions
and their outcomes in U.S. veterans; provides technical assistance to clinicians,
investigators, administrators, and policy
makers within the VHA to promote use of epidemiology; disseminates information about the health
of veterans; and coordinates its activities
with other
VHA supported ERICs within the Cooperative
Studies Program.
Five Major Goals
The Seattle ERIC conducts
state-of-the-art epidemiologic research on disease and injuries affecting
U.S. veterans. The overall aim is to promote
epidemiologic research on the veteran population and on diseases, injuries,
or health behaviors pertinent to veterans. Specific goals include
the following:
- To
contribute to knowledge about the frequency
and causes of health conditions and their
outcomes in US veterans, and of the impact
of medical interventions on the consequences
of these conditions.
- To
develop independent investigators and foster
new investigations in the field of epidemiology
pertinent to US veterans.
- To
serve as a resource within VA for epidemiologic
education and information on a broad range
of descriptive, disease specific, and methodologic
issues.
- To
maintain accountability and to develop as an
organization through appropriate communication,
oversight, and introspection.
- To
expand the impact and influence of the ERIC
and enhance its operational efficiency by collaborating
with other programs.
