  • 2005 Iterim Rule Affecting Medicare (Competitive Acquisition of Outpatient Drugs and Biologicals) -- The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has published an Interim Rule affecting 42 CFR Part 414, Medicare Program; Competitive Acquisition of Outpatient Drugs and Biologicals Under part B in the July 5, 2005 issue of the Federal Register.   • 2005 Relative Value Units (RVU) -- Also known as Unique Physician Fee Schedule
    RVUs are released once a year, usually during November. The latest RVUs were released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on November 15, 2004 and can be found in the Federal Register by either using the browse or search features. To search:

A. Go to the Federal Register advanced search page.
B. Select Volume 69 (2004).
C. Check "Final Rules and Regulations".
C. Enter "physician fee schedule" (in quotes) in the search box and hit SUBMIT.

The 2005 RVUs ( Physician fee schedule (2005 CY); Payment Policies and Relative Value Units Adjustment (pages 66235–66915) ) are available in text or as a single PDF file (29 MB). It has also been broken down into seven smaller PDF files for easier download:

  • Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003 (Pub.L. 108-173): To amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to provide for a voluntary program for prescription drug coverage under the Medicare Program, to modernize the Medicare Program, to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow a deduction to individuals for amounts contributed to health savings security accounts and health savings accounts, to provide for the disposition of unused health benefits in cafeteria plans and flexible spending arrangements, and for other purposes.   • House of Representatives > Ways and Means
    The Subcommittee on Health is responsible bills and matters referred to the Committee on Ways and Means that relate to programs providing payments (from any source) for health care, health delivery systems, or health research. Also available from GPO Access is the Medicare and Health Care Chartbook from the Ways and Means Committee.
  • Senate > Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions
    Four subcommittees (Subcommittee on Aging, Subcommittee on Children and Families; Subcommittee on Employment; Safety, and Training; and Subcommittee on Public Health) are responsible for bills and matters that related such health related issues as: aging, biomedical research and development, domestic activities of the American National Red Cross, handicapped individuals, occupational safety and health, including the welfare of miners, and public health.
