Mayor Martin J. Chávez and ABQ RIDE Director Greg Payne are pleased to announce the launch of the new Rapid Ride Green Line. The new route will span down central from the four hills area to downtown Albuquerque. The service will kick off on August 15, 2009.

“There has been a demand from the citizens of Albuquerque to be able to commute from eastern Albuquerque into the heart of our city. Now the Green Line is here,” says Mayor Martin J. Chávez. “I believe the Green Line will attract many new bus commuters to ABQ RIDE.”

“We are always striving to improve ABQ RIDE and our routes. Our staff has spent countless hours creating and perfecting the new Green Line,” says ABQ Ride Director Greg Payne. “We would like to see new faces on our buses and we hope this new route will inspire people who have never tried mass transit to use our system.”

On weekdays the Green Line will run every 15 minutes from 5:30 AM to 9:30 PM. Weekend service will run about every 30 minutes. Saturday service will run from 6 AM to 9 PM, and Sunday service will go from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM.

There are eleven stops on the Green Line route: Tramway/Wenonah, Central/Juan Tabo, Central/Eubank, Central/Wyoming, Central/Louisiana, Central/San Mateo, Central/Carlisle, Central/UNM/Frontier Restaurant, Central at Presbyterian Hospital, Central/1st (Alvarado Transportation Center, Copper/Gold & 6th (Main Library/Federal Building).

Plans are underway to secure a Park & Ride at Tramway and Wenonah behind the Four Hills Shopping Center.

Rapid Ride is faster than traditional local bus service because of the limited stops. To create fluidity the Green Line does connect with the Rapid Ride Red Line and Blue Line. Making it easier for commuters to go from the east to the westside of Albuquerque.
