In 1996 the first edition of Hemangioma Newsline was written in the form of a Question & Answer sheet for parents of children diagnosed with hemangioma. The newsletter written by Karla Hall and edited by Lillian DuBiel was mailed to 50 families and physicians they had met in their personal searches for treatment for their daughters. Since 1996 the newsletter has been published 2-4 times each year and is now available on the web. Each newsletter contains basic information on the diagnosis and treatment of hemangioma and vascular malformation. It also features an area on new research and publications that comes from the medical literature. Special features including information on insurance, and patient advocacy are often included in the newsletter. A family news and patient update section often features a before and after story submitted by parents or patients following treatment for a vascular anomaly. Many of our newsletters contains articles written by one of our physician advisors on a variety of topics. The newsletter; Hemangioma Newsline has evolved in the past 9 years. It is now the leading patient resource handout at several Vascular Anomaly Treatment Centers in both the US and elsewhere. In addition to the newsletter, NOVA provides several other patient resource materials for educational purposes. NOVA often publishes updates to the newsletter which is based on important new information published in the medical journals. Hemangioma Newsline is written by Karla Hall and edited by our Medical Director, Dr. Denise Adams for medical accuracy and content. The physician, scientists and members that contribute to the newsletter do not receive any financial compensation for their contribution to NOVA.
