Lisa Doherty Fiely

Lisa is the Acting Chief Financial Officer and Deputy Chief Financial Officer at the Department of Labor. Lisa joined June 10, 2007. Since coming on board, she has successfully led the DOL in receiving its 11th and 12th Unqualified Audit Opinions on the Financial Statements while maintaining Green on the President's Management Agenda for Financial Management.

Prior to joining DOL, she was at the US Agency for International Development for four years where she served as the Chief Financial Officer. She was at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for 13 years. While at IRS, Lisa was the Program Director for Internal Management Systems and Business Systems Modernization Office. She was also the Deputy Chief Financial Officer at the Internal Revenue Service.

She has served in a wide variety of financial positions during her thirty years of federal service. She started her career within the federal sector with the Department of Interior Inspector General’s Office, as a Junior Auditor in 1976. She moved on to positions of increasing responsibility within the auditing area in the Treasury Department, Social Security Administration, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). While at the EPA, she made the transition from the auditing arena to the Financial Management Sector/Chief Financial Officer Organizations.

She moved to the IRS in 1990 to head the Financial Management Division and later became the Deputy Chief Financial Officer. Immediately upon assuming that role, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) left the position and she became acting CFO. Under her leadership in the CFO organization at IRS, the Service received its first Unqualified Audit Opinion on the Financial Statements in FY 2000. In August of 2000, she was asked to serve as Program Manager for Internal Management Systems. She was responsible for the implementation of all management system implementations at IRS. She moved to USAID in 2003 where she successfully implemented a new Global Financial Management System and received the Agency’s first Unqualified Audit Opinion. Just prior to her leaving USAID the Agency was awarded Green in both progress and status for Financial Management under the President’s Management Agenda.

Lisa is a Certified Public Accountant. She has a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and Management from Boston University. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Boston University in 1976. She also has a Masters Degree in Accounting Science from George Washington University, where she graduated in 1984. She is a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) having passed the exam in May of 2003. Lisa was a recipient of the coveted Fed 100 Award in 2007.

Lisa was born August 25, 1954, in Fall River, Massachusetts; she was raised in Tiverton, Rhode Island. Lisa currently resides in Virginia with her husband Jerry and their two children, Patrick 19 and Katie 15, and their two Labs, Biskit and Summer.
