Pence: "The American People Have No Stomach for A Government Takeover of Health Care That Will Lead to Fewer Jobs, Higher Taxes and Less Health Coverage"

JULY 14, 2009

Washington, DC - U.S. Congressman Mike Pence, Chairman of the House Republican Conference, made the following statement today after House Democrats introduced their proposal for so-called health care reform:

"The American people have no stomach for a government takeover of health care that will lead to fewer jobs, higher taxes and less health coverage.  Yet that is exactly what House Democrats propose to do during the worst recession in a generation.  The American people are looking for real solutions to create jobs and get our economy back on track, not another excuse to raise taxes on small businesses and working families.

"House Republicans will oppose Washington bureaucrats standing between patients and the care they need.  Republicans will fight for reform that expands access to affordable health care and gives people the freedom to choose the health care that is best for their families, without imposing a jobs-killing tax hike on small businesses.  The American people deserve no less."
