Nineteen terrorists hijacked four commercial airplanes on September 11, 2001, crashing two of the planes into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, one into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane in an open field in Pennsylvania. President Bush declared this action an act of war. The War on Terrorism is now being fought in the United States of America and abroad through diplomatic, military, financial, investigative, homeland security, peacekeeping, and humanitarian actions. Other terrorist acts against the U.S. before and after September 11th include anthrax tainted letters send to U.S. officials through the mail in late 2001, the attack on the U.S. Cole in October 2000, and the bombing of two U.S. embassies in August 1998.   Below, we have provided a list of government websites to keep you up-to-date on terrorism and terrorist activities.
