A Vision for Africa

At a special event commemorating Africa Day, MCC welcomed and heard remarks from:

  • Her Excellency Amina S. Ali, African Union Ambassador to the United States
  • His Excellency Aziz Mekouar, Moroccan Ambassador to the United States,
    Chair, 2009 Africa Week Celebration
  • Ambassador Johnnie Carson, Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs
  • Gayle Smith, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Relief, Stabilization, and Development, National Security Council
  • Kenneth Hackett, President of Catholic Relief Services
  • Rodney Bent, Acting CEO of the Millennium Challenge Corporation
  • David Beckmann, President of Bread for the World

Speakers addressed important issues the continent is facing in this time of global economic crisis, including constraints to growth in the region as well as promising trends for the future and a vision for the years ahead.
