Deployment: Operation Joint Guardian
On March 24, 1999, the U.S. joined with NATO in an air strike against Serbian military targets in Kosovo. In June 1999, U.S. forces entered Kosovo as members of Task Force Falcon, a part of the Kosovo Forces, a NATO-led international force. Over 22,000 U.S. Service members took part in this NATO-led operation. Today, 1,700 U.S. Service members are deployed to establish and maintain a secure environment in Kosovo.
