The Statistics & GIS Project conducts statistical and spatial analyses in support of the research projects conducted by the other projects within the Recruitment Processes Program. Nearly every project in the program requires statistical analysis to test hypotheses and/or estimate population parameters and/or model processes for either prediction or elucidation of relationships among environmental and biological factors. Besides supporting others' research, we have conducted our own research to determine and develop best statistical practices in two important aspects of biological research -- survey design for a patchily distributed population, and analysis of subsampled data to avoid pseudoreplication. We are also creating tools to use in a GIS to perform common processing and presentation of biological data.
