GOV. RITTER ORDERS FLAGS LOWERED IN HONOR OF PETTY OFFICER ANTHONY GARCIA

Governor Ritter today ordered the flags to be lowered to half staff on all state and federal buildings on Friday, August 14, 2009, in honor of Petty Officer 3rd Class Anthony Garcia, a Hospital Corpsman in the United States Navy.

Petty Officer Garcia died on August 5, 2009, as a result of wounds sustained when his vehicle was hit by an Improvised Explosive Device. His vehicle was hit in the Farah Province of Afghanistan, while performing a combat mission in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Garcia was born and raised in the Denver Metro Area, and his father's family still resides here.

There will be a Memorial Service at Colorado Christian Fellowship Church in Aurora for Garcia at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 14. His Burial Service will take place shortly thereafter at noon at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
