Multicultural Initiative in Marine Sciences: Undergraduate Participation (MIMSUP):

The AFSC has been involved in the visits of professors and students from Western Washington University's Multicultural Initiative in Marine Sciences: Undergraduate Participation (MIMSUP)* program since 1996, and has hosted the visit since 2000.

This competitive program, located at Western Washington University's Shannon Point Marine Center in Anacortes, Washington, provides minority undergraduate students with classroom and research training in marine science.

The students' visits to the AFSC gives them an insight into the wide variety of career possibilities in marine sciences. In return, students present their progress on ongoing research projects to an audience of AFSC scientists. Discussions between students and staff about research projects and employment opportunities follow from the exchange.
