Report coverNew Report Highlights Extension's Impact on Michigan

MSU Extension's new "Report to our Partners" showcases 2008 programs that are helping Michigan develop entrepreneurs, promote healthy lifestyles, prepare for the expanding bioeconomy, educate and support decision makers and build leaders for today and tomorrow.

You'll learn about 4-H'ers who are turning used cooking oil into biodiesel fuel to run school buses, a recycling plant that's turning used horse bedding into electricity, and an Extension educator that's keeping residents from being turned out of their homes.

Read those and other great stories here.

Explore Opportunities for Bioenergy at March Conference

The expanding bioenergy sector offers tremendous potential for Michigan farmers. All members of the agricultural community are invited to learn more about bioenergy and renewable fuels during the Michigan Agri-Energy Conference, March 30-31 at the Kalamazoo Radisson Plaza Hotel in Kalamazoo.

Concurrent session topics will look at such issues as regional biomass processing and compressing biomass for transportation, anaerobic digester technology and economics and farmer perspective, the legal aspects of wind contracts, the economics of community wind, solar options for Michigan’s climate, using solar energy to live off the grid and geothermal energy basics.  For more information, visit the Michigan Agri-Energy Conference Web site

Money"One Stop Shop" for Economic Help for Michigan Families

While Michigan is in a turbulent economic climate, there is help for families to weather the economic storm!  MSU Extension has developed a resource list (PDF) that can assist families with career development, entrepreneurship, financial and housing education resources.

In addition, a new national Web site created by eXtension, Managing Your Money In Tough Economic Times, highlights tips and tools to help families stretch their food dollars, decide what bills to pay first, build an emergency fund and manage debt, among other things.

To speak to someone about available resources specific to your community or to speak with an educator about any of these important topics, please contact your local MSU Extension office.
