Regional Reduced Fare Permit (RRFP)

Sometimes called a senior or disabled bus pass, this permit costs $3.00 and entitles you to reduced fares on Metro Transit, Washington State Ferries, Community Transit, Everett Transit, Intercity Transit, Jefferson Transit, Kitsap Transit, Mason Transit, Pierce Transit, Skagit Transit and Sound Transit. Each transit agency sets their own reduced fare structure.

A Personal Care Attendant Regional Reduced Fare Permit is available for persons who need assistance to ride the bus. Call Metro's Customer Service Office at 206-553-3060, TTY users call 206-684-1739, for information or use the .PDF forms available below.

Persons 65 and over (Senior Permit)

In Person

Pictures are not required for persons 65 and older for the permit. Senior Permits can be obtained in person at Metro's Customer Service offices for a $3.00 fee and by presenting one of the following:

  • A state driver's license or I.D. card (expired cards acceptable); OR
  • A birth certificate; OR
  • A passport; OR
  • Any state or federal document that contains your name and birthdate.

By Mail

To obtain a permit by mail, call Customer Service at 206-553-3060, TTY users call 206-384-1739, to request an application or download and use the RRFP Application Form [.PDF 435KB 2 pages].

  • Complete ONLY the FRONT of the application form and sign it.
  • Enclose a check or money order for $3.00 made payable to Metro Transit.
  • Enclose a COPY of one of the following to verify your age:
    • A state driver's license or I.D. card (expired cards acceptable); OR
    • A birth certificate; OR
    • A passport; OR
    • Any state or federal document that contains your name and birthdate.
  • Mail completed RRFP Application Form to:

Persons under 65 (Disability Permit)

Persons under 65 who qualify for a permit due to a disability must have their picture taken for the permit when it is issued. Photos are taken only at the Customer Service office (Pass Sales area) at the King Street Center.

To obtain a permit based on a disability, please bring a completed and signed application form IN PERSON to the Metro Customer Service Office, 201 S. Jackson St., King Street Center (next to Amtrak Train Station) Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The permit (or replacement) costs $3.00. (Please bring photo identification.)

Qualifications

To qualify for a Regional Reduced Fare Permit, you must present proof that you meet one of the following criteria:

  • you are 65 years of age or older; OR
  • you are currently certified by the Veterans Administration at a 40 percent or greater disability level; OR
  • you have a valid Regional ADA paratransit card; OR
  • you have an obvious physical impairment(s) meeting the medical criteria for the program; OR
  • you are certified by a physician, psychiatrist, psychologist (PhD), audiologist, nurse practitioner (ARNP) or physician assistant (PA) as meeting one or more of the medical criteria established for this program. Call Metro at 206-553-3060, 206-684-2029 for TTY users, to get a certification form or use the RRFP Application Form [.PDF 435KB 2 pages], and have your doctor fill it out before you go to Metro to register.

Temporary Permit

You can qualify for a temporary Regional Reduced Fare Permit if you meet one of the following criteria:

  • you are currently eligible for Social Security Disability benefits (SSDI) or currently receive Supplemental Social Security (SSI) due to a disability; OR
  • you have a valid Medicare card from the Social Security Administration; OR
  • you have a valid ADA paratransit card from outside the region.
